A pair of human rights activists are charging that “a crime against humanity” is happening on a large scale in China. Members of Falun Gong, a spiritual movement banned by the Chinese government since 1999, are being “in effect, murdered for their organs,” which are being sold to buyers from China and abroad, says David Kilgour, a former member of the Canadian Parliament and coauthor of the report.
Chinese authorities kill political prisoners and harvest their healthy body parts for use in organ transplants, two Canadian jurists have [concluded]. When will Australia protest?
The new human rights report alleges the increase in organ availability can be attributed to one fact: the execution of Falun Gong practitioners detained by the Chinese Government, who are then quite literally harvested for parts.
A human rights lawyer and a former cabinet minister in Canada have added their weight to charges that China has been killing Falun Gong dissidents so it can use their organs. They provided English transcripts of phone calls, in Mandarin, made to detention centres and organ transplant clinics in which officials said organs from Falun Gong practitioners could be made available for speedy use.
A former Canadian cabinet member and a human rights lawyer issued a report overnight alleging China harvests organs from unwilling live prison inmates, mostly Falun Gong practitioners, for transplants on a large scale.
The Government of China released a statement in response to our report titled Report into Allegations of Organ Harvesting of Falun Gong Practitioners in China dated July 6, 2006.
We have these reactions to this statement:
A 45-page investigative report was released today in North America that addresses allegations of organ harvesting from Falun Gong detainees. Coauthored by former Canadian Secretary of State (Asia-Pacific) David Kilgour and human rights attorney David Matas, the report draws “the regrettable conclusion that the allegations are true.”
“The very horror makes us reel back in disbelief,” the report says. “But that disbelief does not mean that the allegations are untrue.”
A respected Canadian human rights lawyer and a former Canadian cabinet member lent their weight on Thursday to charges that China has been killing Falun Gong dissidents so it can use their organs.
Former director of the Asian Pacific Division of Canada’s Foreign Affairs Ministry Mr. David Kilgour talked with Chinese Embassy officials on Friday, June 23, 2006 about entering China to investigate the CCP’s live organ removal from Falun Gong practitioners. The Chinese official was evasive and dodged responsibility.
