(Minghui.org) The Vietnamese community held a Chinese New Year celebration on February 16 and 17 in Perth, and practitioners were invited to participate and introduce Falun Dafa. An Australian senator stopped at their booth to express his support.
The celebration was held at Girrawheen, a suburb of Perth. Festival booths featured a variety of food and activities for children. People dressed in ethnic clothing, and dragon dances, lion dances, singing, dancing, and a fashion show were held. The festival ended with fireworks, to welcome 2024, the Year of the Dragon.
Falun Dafa practitioners demonstrated the exercises, and gave waist drum and dragon dance performances, winning warm applause.
Many people stopped at the booth to watch the exercise demonstration and learn about Falun Dafa. Some asked where they could learn to practice.
Dean Smith, a member of the Australian Senate, also visited the Falun Dafa booth. He shook hands with practitioners and talked to them.
As a strong human rights advocate, Senator Smith has worked against the persecution of Falun Dafa by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) including the forced organ harvesting crimes. He also submitted Migration Amendment (Overseas Organ Transplant Disclosure and Other Measures) Bill 2023 last year to the Senate. It aims to combat organ tourism as well as related crimes and human rights issues through legislature, to align with the stance of other Western countries.
Senator Smith said many people support human rights and he hopes more people will pay attention to the suppression by the CCP. He encouraged practitioners to continue to speak out and raise awareness.
Nga Nguyen and her friends said they liked the uplifting atmosphere at the Falun Dafa booth. She talked with practitioners and accepted materials. Nguyen also praised the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and said everyone would benefit from following them.
Malgorzata Olszak stayed for a long while to watch the exercise demonstration and said she was impressed by the peaceful energy. After reading a Falun Dafa flyer, she said she would recommend the practice to her coworkers.
