(Minghui.org) According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 1.35 million people die each year in traffic accidents around the world. This translates to the loss of 3,700 lives per day or one death every 25 seconds.
So what about “accidents” in outer space? What if there are collisions or other types of accidents involving Earth?
In fact, they do happen from time to time as we will discuss.

The Chelyabinsk Meteor in Russia
In 2000, Discover magazine listed 20 ways the world could end. Number one on the list was “Asteroid impact.”
A meteor that entered the atmosphere in the south Ural region of Russia in February 2013 could have eliminated half of the world’s population, but it miraculously exploded right before it landed.
At 9:20 a.m. on February 15, about 30 kilometers above the city of Chelyabinsk in Siberia, a huge, dazzling white light suddenly flashed as it headed to Earth. The white light exploded, turning into a radiant fireball and illuminating the sky above the entire city.
Scientists later learned from image data that the white light in the sky was a meteorite with a radius of 8.5 meters and a weight of about 7,200 tons. It was detected by a U.S. monitoring satellite as it fell into the atmosphere at a speed of 19 kilometers per second. It was on its way to hit the earth in seconds, making interception impossible.
According to its trajectory, if the meteor had hit, it would have landed less than 100 kilometers away from the Chelyabinsk nuclear power plant and the nuclear raw material storage warehouse. Its destructive force would have been equivalent to 500,000 tons of TNT (30 times more energy than the atomic bomb that hit Hiroshima) and would have detonated the nuclear power plant. The Eurasian continent would have ceased to exist, and all of humankind may have faced extinction.
According to a civilian pilot in the area, crew members in the plane could feel the heat wave, which shook the plane. They saw the meteor explode into pieces. What happened was a mystery. Three days later, Russia published a video from a moving recorder.
As the meteor was about to hit the ground, an unknown object caught up with it and smashed it into pieces. Since the meteor was traveling at a speed of 18 kilometers per second, scientists estimated this object was probably moving at 40 kilometers per hour, which is much quicker than the fastest nuclear missile (6.4 kilometers per second). Russian authorities claimed they had taken no action since they had not detected the meteor as it raced toward Earth.
Many people in Russia saw the meteorite falling and being destroyed, and many photographed an object flying away after the meteorite disintegrated. Meteorite fragments damaged more than 7,000 buildings and injured nearly a thousand people, but no deaths were recorded. The meteorite fragments, which are now in a Russian museum, have also behaved mysteriously.
When some people were looking at the meteorites in the museum, the transparent cover over the meteorites levitated. The museum staff were also very surprised. They claimed that no one was playing a prank, and could not explain this phenomenon. The Moscow Times reported this on December 18, 2019, in an article titled “Glass Lid Mysteriously Floats Above Meteor in Russian Museum.”
Another Near-Miss
Like the Chelyabinsk meteor, other incidents that threatened all of humanity were mysteriously resolved. One example is the 2012 doomsday predicted by a Mayan prophecy. While people laughed at this and considered it nonsense, there was a near-miss in July 2012.
“On July 23, 2012, the sun unleashed two massive clouds of plasma that barely missed a catastrophic encounter with the earth’s atmosphere. These plasma clouds, known as coronal mass ejections (CMEs), comprised a solar storm thought to be the most powerful in at least 150 years,” reported the Washington Post in a July 2014 article, titled “How a solar storm two years ago nearly caused a catastrophe on Earth.”
Physicist Daniel Baker from the University of Colorado said that the timing was critical. “Fortunately, the blast site of the CMEs was not directed at Earth. Had this event occurred a week earlier when the point of eruption was Earth-facing, a potentially disastrous outcome would have unfolded,” the article continued. “Analysts believe that a direct hit … could cause widespread power blackouts, disabling everything that plugs into a wall socket. Most people wouldn’t even be able to flush their toilet because urban water supplies largely rely on electric pumps.”
The Solar Dynamics Observatory, a specialised agency of NASA in the United States, previously released high-definition pictures of the sun’s surface on its NASA official website SDO, showing abnormalities in the sun’s NOAA-1042 and NOAA-1401 sunspot active regions. This was the most serious eruption on the sun since solar observations have been recorded. Even as the scientists were stunned and even desperate, something strange happened. Hundreds of black, unidentified objects suddenly appeared on the surface of the sun and around the sun and seemed to start absorbing the sun’s energy. Afterward, the solar storm deviated from the earth.
Protected by the Divine
Since ancient times, the earth and its inhabitants have weathered many near-catastrophes, including the examples in this article. Why have we been so lucky thus far? Is it possible we were blessed by the divine to avoid such danger?
Mr. Li Hongzhi, the founder of Falun Dafa, a meditation system based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, published an article in January this year titled “How Humankind Came To Be.”
He wrote,
“So just as the universe goes through formation, stasis, degeneration, and destruction, so too do human beings go through birth, aging, illness, and death. These are laws of the universe…”
“Heaven and Earth, just as with man, were made by the Creator, and it is never the case that He plays favorites with some lives and shortchanges others. The reason some people lead happy lives and others do not all comes down to rewards and retributions for past deeds.”
“The reason people came to this world and became human was to atone for their sins and karma, and to make significant spiritual progress. People came to this world to gain salvation. They came and assumed human form to await the Creator and his salvation back to their heavenly kingdom. And while they waited, they built up merit over their many past lives; and that was the purpose of people’s rebirths. The troubled nature of this world is meant to make something great of these lives.”
Taken together, we might have a better understanding of who we are, what we are here for, and where we are going.
