The Hong Kong Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) confiscated banners and display boards from a truth clarification site set up by Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Hong Ruifeng in 2013 and charged him with “illegally displaying signs or posters on government land without approval from relevant authorities” and “obstructing public officials.”
The hearing was held in the Fanling Magistrates’ Courts on August 19, 2021. The principal magistrate Don So Man-lung ruled that the plaintiff was found not guilty on both counts.
Hong Ruifeng said that he was happy with the outcome. He has been going to the streets to tell people about Falun Dafa for 21 years. He said, “As long as the persecution does not stop, I will continue to clarify the truth.”
He recalled the incident that took place in 2013. He set up an information booth near the Sham Shui Po train station and an officer from the FEHD came and confiscated his display boards as he was packing up. The officer tried to snatch the banner that was in his hand. When he refused to give him the banner, he was charged with two counts – “Illegally displaying signs or posters on government land without approval from relevant authorities” and “obstructing public officials.” He said, “From the video recordings, one can see that the FEHD officer stopped me from packing up.”
Mr. Hong feels the victory is justice given back to Falun Dafa.
He began to practice Falun Dafa in 1998 and recovered from illnesses such as allergies. More importantly, he found the real purpose in life and strives to be a good person.
In 2000 after the Chinese Communist Party launched its persecution against the spiritual practice in China, he took to the streets to hand out information to expose the atrocities. To date, he has been doing this for 21 years. Mr. Hong said this is his mission. As long as practitioners in China continue to be incarcerated, he will go out to expose the truth.
According to Mr. Hong, there has been a significant change in the attitudes of Hong Kong citizens towards Falun Dafa after practitioners have explained the facts for more than two decades. Many people now know Falun Dafa is good and help practitioners. For example, when a pro-communist man vandalised a Falun Dafa display, passersby stopped the man and handed him over to the police.
