Sydney, Australia: Public Support for Falun Gong Practitioners’ Efforts to End the Persecution

Every Friday afternoon, people visiting Hyde Park in downtown Sydney see a group of Falun Gong practitioners peacefully doing exercises and talking to passersby about this ancient spiritual practice.

Practitioners were at the park at noon on June 9 to raise awareness of the persecution of Falun Gong in China, including the Chinese Communist Party’s state-sanctioned killing of practitioners to harvest their organs for profit. People who learned about this atrocity signed the petition calling for an end to it.

While a group of practitioners were doing the exercises to peaceful music, others distributed informational materials and collected signatures from passersby.

Sue was strolling in the park with her granddaughter. She signed the petition and a postcard to her federal Member of Parliament after she understood what the practitioners were doing. She felt it beyond comprehension that forced organ harvesting is happening. “It’s completely unacceptable, and can’t be allowed,” she said. Her granddaughter was happy to get a blue origami lotus flower.

A group of young ladies passing by the park paused to take informational materials and listen to a practitioner talk about Falun Gong and the ongoing persecution. Upon hearing that the Chinese Communist Party deprives practitioners of their freedom of belief, and kills them for their organs, the ladies were stunned and solemnly signed the petition.

Raul Rojias and Maureen Isa, who are practicing Catholics, heard of the persecution and the forced organ harvesting crimes for the first time. They were shocked and said that God is watching – if people commit crimes, God will punish them. Both of them signed the petition and said that it is their responsibility to help people who suffer persecution.

Ms. Irene Rapp signed the petition and told a practitioner that she had heard about forced organ harvesting several years ago in London. She said it is inconceivable that such a thing is still going on after so many years, and all governments should stand up to stop it.

Two sisters from Venezuela copied the practitioners doing the exercises on the lawn. A practitioner then taught them to do the second and third exercises. They learned earnestly. Afterwards, they hugged the practitioner to express their appreciation. They said they felt strong energy while doing the movement of rotating Falun in front of their abdomen, and felt comfortable and happy while doing the exercises.

A couple from Sweden watched practitioners doing the sitting meditation for a long time before the wife walked up to join them. The couple signed the petition before leaving.

With practitioners’ perseverance in raising awareness, more and more Australians have learned about the persecution of Falun Gong, and more and more people have stood up to support their effort to end the persecution.
