Ms. Weng Ping in Serious Condition in Detention Center; Her Family Urges Immediate Treatment

May 17, 2016 | Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Weng Ping was illegally arrested and has been detained in the Changning Detention Centre for 11 months. Her trial is scheduled for the near future. She is in serious condition, and her family is urging the detention centre to release her so that she can get timely treatment.

On June 2, 2015, officers from Changzheng Police Precinct of Putuo District Police Department and the National Security Division of Changning District broke into Ms. Weng’s apartment and took her away. Her case was submitted to the Changning District Court, and she was admitted to the Changning Detention Centre.

The only evidence against her is a photograph of a woman walking down the street. The woman doesn’t even look like Ms. Weng.

Because Ms. Weng was detained for five days at the end of 2014 for distributing materials exposing the persecution of Falun Gong, the police decided that the woman in the picture was Ms. Weng.

Ms. Weng’s family recently learned that she is in serious condition, with high blood pressure and a dangerously swollen gallbladder filled with gallstones. Her family has appealed to the authorities to release her immediately.

Ms. Weng had a stroke in 2010. She was taken to the emergency room, where the doctor prescribed medicine to keep her condition temporarily under control.
