The Dignity of the Mission

On 16th March 2002, Mr Alexander Downer, the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, signed “certificates” declaring that Falun Gong practitioners’ banners across the road from the Chinese Embassy “impair the dignity” of the (Chinese) mission. Zhang Dejiang, member of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Central Politburo and Secretary of the CCP Committee of Guangdong Province, was served with a summons from the Supreme Court of New South Wales for the crime of torture against a Sydney resident, Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Xie Yan. He received the court summons as he led a delegation to attend the China Guangdong-Australia Business Conference 2005 at the Hilton Hotel in Sydney.
