These are the first gunshots fired at overseas Falun Gong practitioners by Jiang’s followers, who have been using all possible means in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. This incident in South Africa is most likely just an extension of the Jiang group’s state sponsored terrorism to overseas countries.
The tortures that Falun Gong practitioners face in China have revealed to the world the horrific nature of the persecution. The tortures are so incredibly appalling that I have been asked, “Is it possible that such brutal torture exists in the civilized world of today?” The answer is yes.
When I read the descriptions of the tortures, I often feel that I can not bear to read them any more, because it is very a disturbing and even traumatizing experience just to read them. However, when I see the actual photographs of dead or surviving Falun Gong practitioners bearing the horrible evidence of torture on their bodies, I have no choice but to admit that such an abysmal tragedy is taking place in today’s world.
I have been friends with a Chinese couple since the end of 1995. I shared a large apartment with them for almost a year. Since then, I have kept in touch with them. I have gotten to know their personality, outlook, and moral character, just as I know myself. They are not at all like the Falun Gong practitioners that the Mainland Chinese media has described.
Although you may be aware that many adult practitioners of Falun Gong have been persecuted, tortured and killed under the supervision and instruction of the Jiang regime, you may not be aware that in China at the moment many of the children who are practitioners themselves or are related to practitioners are also experiencing similar persecution.
Numerous examples have shown that Jiang and his followers have contravened the basic human rights of these children, including their right to survival, their right to freedom from abuse and malnutrition, their right to education, their right to freedom from discrimination and their right to participate fully in family, cultural and social life in their society.
Observers have pointed out that Falun Gong is a group with a unique characteristic. When faced with brutal persecution designed to eradicate those who practice its principles, Falun Gong has showed extraordinary strength, which has been demonstrated not only through its non-violent manner and perseverance to end the persecution against it, but also by its practitioner’s warm and upbeat attitude toward society and the public. Falun Gong practitioners peaceful and non-violent means in the face of a brutal campaign to eradicate them has been rare in history.
From the surface appearance, it seemed that torture, brainwashing, slave labor, beatings, and torture deaths are too drastic to ever occur in such a place. Only Falun Gong practitioners who survived the torments of the labor camp know exactly what was behind such a beautiful facade
According to overseas analysts, the issue of Falun Gong is pivotal to China’s human rights. If the human rights violations against Falun Gong practitioners are not addressed, none of China’s other human rights issues can be fundamentally improved, as the persecution of Falun Gong is not only targeted at practitioners, but the human rights of 1.3 billion Chinese from all walks of life are all severely violated.
Recently, China once more used a “no-action” motion to block passage of a resolution introduced by the Unites States at the 60th session of the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, criticizing China’s human rights practices.
Five years ago on April 25, 1999, approximately 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners went to appeal to the State Council’s Appeals Office on Fuyou Street in Beijing. The world stood still as the Falun Gong practitioners appealed in a peaceful, rational, trusting, tolerant and highly self-disciplined manner.
