There have been many examples throughout history of how to avert danger and ensure safety. We may want to take a cue from these ancient legends as we face today’s challenges such as the coronavirus.
Monkey King and Buddha
Journey to the West is one of the most known legends in Chinese history. After Money King caused chaos in heaven with his supernatural powers, Buddha captured him and detained him under a mountain for 500 years with a paper talisman.
When Monk Tang came by 500 years later on the way to India for Buddha’s scriptures, Monkey King offered to help him in exchange for his own release. With that wish, the paper talisman was removed and Monkey King was freed.
Monkey King kept his promise and protected Monk Tang along the way despite countless difficulties. Of course, he also received many blessings and assistance from Bodhisattva Guanyin.
This story tells us that a person’s ability is limited. Only by following the divine to be good could mankind achieve safety and longevity.
Exodus and Passover
In the biblical book of Exodus, when ancient Hebrews were enslaved in Egypt and their attempt for freedom was denied by the Pharaoh, God demonstrated his power through the Ten Plagues. Again and again, the Pharaoh refused to release them.
In the tenth and final plague, God told the Jews to mark their doors with the blood of a lamb they sacrificed—the Passover offering. As the firstborn in every household was struck down overnight, only families with the mark survived the plague.
This story indicates that those who are blessed are able to survive plagues or other disasters.
Life-Saving Verses
Throughout history, plagues were believed to target those who did wrong, whether in the Roman Empire or as described in the Old Testament. In fact, historical records showed that plagues in the Roman Empire miraculously disappeared after people repented their wrongdoings of religious persecution.
Similar miracles also happened to people who support Falun Gong. Also known as Falun Dafa, Falun Gong is a meditation system based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. The mind-body practice has enabled countless practitioners to improve their health and character. Out of fear for its ever-growing popularity, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute the practice in July 1999.
A story recently received by Minghui.org told a story of a man who survived the coronavirus epidemic by reciting “Falun Dafa is good” and “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” In another story, after the author told his classmate to recite the above two phrases, the classmate’s infection went away in two days.
As the persecution enters its 20th year, Falun Gong practitioners are continuing their efforts to expose the CCP’s brutality against its citizens and spread the goodness of Falun Gong. We hope that many more people will benefit by reciting “Falun Dafa is good” and “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” We trust the verses will bring blessings and miracles to those who truly believe in them.
