SYDNEY – The week before the next Australia-China Human Rights Bilateral Dialogue, a wall of banners will line George Street from Martin Place to Town Hall. The display marks seven years since the spiritual discipline, Falun Gong (also Falun Dafa), was declared ‘illegal’ in China under the personal directive of then-Communist leader, Jiang Zemin on July 20, 1999.
Independent findings by former Canadian Secretary of State (Asia Pacific), David Kilgour, and human rights lawyer, David Matas earlier this month, conclude that the Chinese communist regime “since 1999 have put to death a large but unknown number of Falun Gong prisoners of conscience. Their vital organs, including hearts, kidneys, livers and corneas, were virtually simultaneously seized involuntarily for sale at high prices…”
“The Australia-China bilateral human rights dialogue has completely failed to assist in lessening or ending this human rights atrocity. Immediate investigation and open condemnation of the persecution is what the communist regime is most afraid of and what will save the lives of thousands of innocent people.” Said Kay Rubacek, Falun Gong Spokesperson.
As part of recommendations to the Canadian Government, the independent report states that, “The current form of dialogue between Canada and China over human rights should cease. Canadian political scientist and former diplomat Charles Burton recently declared the dialogue a charade. In hindsight, the Government erred in agreeing to the talk fests in exchange for Canada no longer co-sponsoring the yearly motion criticizing China’s government at the then UN Human Rights Commission.”
