(Minghui.org) On Easter weekend (Saturday, April 8), people in Kuldīga, Latvia, had an opportunity to find out about the persecution of Falun Dafa in China at an event on Liepājas Street 1 next to the town hall.

Practitioners explained that they try to be good people in their everyday lives by returning to traditional values, so they are honest, helpful, and polite, and they honor their parents and take care of their loved ones. For living this way, they are illegally arrested, tortured, and killed in China.

Practitioners introduce Falun Dafa and tell people about the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution.

One man said he had previously signed a petition calling for Jiang Zemin (the former head of the CCP who launched the persecution) to be prosecuted. He had also read the main book of Falun Dafa’s teachings, Zhuan Falun, and learned the exercises. He said, “By meditating and improving spiritually, a person begins to understand that happiness and harmony are here and now. Happiness is a state of consciousness within oneself. Keep doing what you’re doing. I condemn this illegal persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in China. It’s mind-boggling. May you all succeed!

A man who stopped to talk said, “I condemn [the CCP] for this illegal persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners in China.”

A woman who spoke with a practitioner learned that Falun Dafa practitioners in China are being tortured and even killed for their organs. She commented that Easter is a time of reflection, a time to think about values, and that everyone has to understand what is good and what is bad. She condemned the persecution of Falun Dafa, saying it was very evil.

After reading the banner, another woman stopped to find out more. A practitioner described the persecution to which law-abiding Falun Dafa practitioners are subjected to in China. The woman was surprised that something like that could be happening in the world today. She said, “I am very interested in Eastern culture and want to learn more about Falun Dafa.”

Many passersby said they’d signed the petition before and were aware of the Chinese regime’s widespread persecution. They wished practitioners good luck and encouraged them not to give up. Several people from Ventspils, Riga, and Liepāja were interested in Falun Dafa. Practitioners told them where the exercise sites in their cities were located and gave them booklets about Falun Dafa.

Background: What Is Falun Dafa and Why Is the CCP Persecuting It?

Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) was first introduced to the public by Mr. Li Hongzhi in Changchun, China, in 1992. The spiritual discipline is now practiced in over 100 countries and regions worldwide.

Millions of people who have embraced the teachings, which are based on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance, and have learned the five exercises have experienced improved health and well-being.

Jiang Zemin perceived the spiritual discipline’s growing popularity as a threat to the CCP’s atheistic ideology, and on July 20, 1999, he issued an order to eradicate the practice.

Under Jiang’s personal direction, the CCP established the 610 Office, an extralegal security organisation with the power to override the police and judicial systems and whose sole function is to carry out the persecution of Falun Dafa.

Minghui.org has confirmed the deaths of thousands of practitioners as a result of the persecution over the past 24 years. The actual number is believed to be much higher. Countless practitioners have been imprisoned and tortured for their faith.

There is concrete evidence that the CCP sanctions the harvesting of organs from detained practitioners, who are murdered to supply China’s organ transplant industry.
