(Minghui.org) Ms. Yu Shuqing, a Yushu City, Jilin Province resident, was arrested on May 19, 2022 after being reported for distributing Falun Gong materials. She was held at the Changchun City Detention Centre. Her arrest was later approved by the Dehui Procuratorate. The Minghui.org website recently confirmed that she was sentenced to a three-year prison term by the Dehui Court in January 2023.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Past Persecution of Ms. Yu

Ms. Yu, 60, took up Falun Gong in 1996. She has been arrested multiple times since the persecution started in 1999, harassed countless times, and given two labor camp terms.

Ms. Yu went to Beijing on December 19, 1999 to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. She was arrested at Tiananmen Square and detained in Beijing. The police shocked her with electric batons and force-fed her.

After being taken back to Yushu, she was given two years of forced labor and taken to the Jiutai Forced Labor Camp on February 12, 2000. She was transferred to the Changchun Women’s Forced Labor Camp along with 40 other practitioners a year later. They were subjected to savage beatings, electric shocks, and being tied up in a spread eagle position. Having endured unspeakable mental and physical trauma, she couldn’t recognise her daughter and other family members when she was released.

Ms. Yu was arrested again in August 2004 and detained for 15 days.

The police stopped her on the street on October 3, 2004 while she was on her way home from work. They searched her bag and arrested her upon finding a Falun Gong book. After 15 days of detention, she was given another year at the Changchun Women’s Forced Labor Camp. Guard Ding Caihong shocked her with an electric baton. During her term, the police also harassed her family and fired gun shots at their home.

Ms. Yu and her husband were both arrested on April 18, 2008 and detained briefly.

To clarify the facts about Falun Gong, Ms. Yu delivered two Falun Gong booklets to the police station in the fall of 2008, only to be arrested again and detained for 15 days.

Ms. Yu was arrested another time on October 3, 2009 and held in custody for 25 days.

More than ten officers broke into her home on July 10, 2010 and took her to a brainwashing centre, where she held a hunger strike to protest the persecution. She managed to escape after 13 days and was forced to live away from home for six months.

Li Fenglin, director of the Yushu City 610 Office, along with four police officers, broke into Ms. Yu’s home on July 6, 2011 and took her to the Weizigou Lockup, where she was held for 15 days. The police attempted to give her another one-year labor camp term, but released her after her husband bribed them with 5,000 yuan.

The police took Ms. Yu to a brainwashing centre on October 30, 2012. As she refused to renounce Falun Gong, the police transferred her to the Changchun Brainwashing Centre two weeks later, on November 13, where she was deprived of sleep and verbally abused. She wasn’t released until December 18 that year.

For distributing informational materials about Falun Gong outside of the police station on September 8, 2016, Ms. Yu was arrested the next day and given ten days of detention.

She was arrested another time on September 14, 2017 and detained for five days.

The police attempted to arrest her again on February 6, 2018, but relented, given her husband’s strong protest.
