Aug. 24, 2021 | By a Falun Dafa practitioner in South Korea
Nam Geumrang is a 77-year-old Korean Falun Dafa practitioner. She has a big heart for Chinese who are currently living under the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) regime. She has been persisting in peacefully resisting the persecution and clarifying the truth in front of the Chinese Consulate General in South Korea for more then 20 years.
Chinese tourists can often be seen at Yongdusan Park in the Korean city of Busan. Many Chinese tourists have given her a thumbs-up and praised Falun Dafa practitioners’ determination and persistence. Some Chinese also voluntarily stepped forward to quit the CCP and its affiliated organisations.
Being Sympathetic Upon Encountering Falun Dafa for the First Time
Ms. Nam first encountered Falun Dafa practitioners when she was hiking up a mountain twenty-one years ago. She watched the practitioners peacefully meditating with their eyes closed for a long time. It made her feel very peaceful and wonderful, and she decided to learn the practice. After cultivating Falun Dafa, her body became healthier and she learned to be more compassionate and considerate of others.
Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is an advanced cultivation practice of the Buddha School. It was founded by Mr. Li Hongzhi and is based on Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. Since its public introduction in Changchun, China, on May 13, 1992, the practice has spread to more than 100 countries and regions around the world, and hundreds of millions of people have practiced and benefited from it, both physically and mentally.
Ms. Nam learned about the persecution in China not long after she began cultivating. She recalled, “My body benefitted almost immediately after learning the practice. I did not understand why such a practice was being persecuted. I was really sad upon hearing about this, and tears started to roll down my cheeks.”
Peacefully Protesting for More Than 20 Years
Ms. Nam realised that Chinese people should know the truth about Falun Dafa. Hence, she decided to start peacefully protesting in front of the Chinese Consulate General in Busan after talking with another practitioner.
Ms. Nam hangs up posters and banners in front of the Chinese Consulate every morning to stop the persecution. She also distributes truth-clarification flyers to passersby. When Chinese people learn the truth of Falun Dafa, they are shocked, because it is the complete opposite from what they heard in the Mainland.
Not long after the peaceful protest began, the Chinese Consulate began interfering and exhausted all means to harm Ms. Nam. For example, someone from the Chinese Consulate would curse at Ms. Nam in Korean, among other tactics. They also called the police and reported Ms. Nam.
Ms. Nam stated, “Peacefully protesting is legal in South Korea.” Korean police officers also told the staff members in the Chinese Consulate, “Not even the Korean president has the right to interfere with a peaceful protest.” The Chinese Consulate then stopped interfering with Ms. Nam, and the Korean police officers also treated Falun Dafa practitioners cordially.
Chinese Tourists Support Truth-Clarification Activities
Chinese tourism started to increase starting in 2005. Dozens of buses frequently arrived at Yongdusan Park in Busan. Ms. Nam thought that this was a good opportunity to clarify the truth to Chinese people. As a result, Ms. Nam, along with several other practitioners, hold truth-clarification activities after the peaceful protest ends at the Chinese Consulate every day.
“We raise the banners and posters up high in order for the Chinese tourists to see more clearly,” said Ms. Nam. “Some tourists point their fingers at us and curse at us, while others sitting on the bus give us a thumbs-up. We think that those who curse at us are brainwashed by the CCP. They curse at us in order to protect themselves from the CCP regime. We can feel the sincerity coming from those who support us when they are aware of the truth about Falun Dafa.”
Ms. Nam said that some Chinese tourists were moved to tears after reading the banner. She said, “There were two Chinese men crying while walking towards us one time. They came and asked to quit the CCP and its affiliated organisations, and before leaving the two men also took some truth-clarification materials.”
