A 70-year-old woman has been detained for nearly a month since her latest arrest for not renouncing her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Jia Naizhi and Ms. Zhao Yulan, 79, residents of Fushun City, Liaoning Province, were arrested on April 18, 2019.
The police ransacked both women’s homes and took them to Xinfu Police Station for interrogation. They were transferred to Fushun City Detention Centre the next day.
Although Ms. Zhao was released nine days later due to a heart condition and high blood pressure, Ms. Jia remains incarcerated.
Ms. Jia began to practice Falun Gong in 1997. She credits the practice for curing her peripheral neuropathy.
Her pursuit of health landed her in police custody numerous times after the communist regime ordered the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999.
She served two years in a forced labor camp and ten years in prison for speaking out for Falun Gong. She was brutally tortured and was on the verge of death several times.
Ms. Jia had a total of 174,000 yuan in cash confiscated from her over the years.
In addition, she was forced to surrender 148,000 yuan of salary she received during her ten-year imprisonment before the local social security office agreed to issue her pension payments.
