July 20, 2017 marks 18 years since the Chinese Communist regime started a brutal persecution campaign against practitioners of Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, in China.
Over the past 18 years, Falun Gong practitioners inside and outside of China have persevered in their peaceful effort to end the persecution against their beliefs. More and more people have understood the true situation, and expressed their strong support for Falun Gong.
Practitioners in Queensland held activities at Brisbane Square on July 15 to commemorate the peaceful effort against the persecution, introduce the beauty of Falun Gong and raise awareness of the brutal persecution of this ancient spiritual practice in China.
Many people had heard of Falun Gong before and some for the first time. They were appalled by the Chinese regime’s persecution of Falun Gong practitioners who follow the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, and signed a petition to express their support for Falun Gong.
Anette, a Brisbane resident, said that she had heard about Falun Gong for years. “I wholeheartedly support Falun Gong and the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance,” she said. “The persecution has gone on for too long. It deprives people of their dignity and freedom of beliefs. It is absolutely unacceptable that people are persecuted for their faiths. We support Falun Gong and must stop the persecution!”
A woman name Ricer from Golden Coast said that although she lives in Australia and is unable to offer more direct help to those victims, she will help more people learn the facts. “The persecution is intolerable,” she said. “I hope you can keep up with your efforts. Justice will prevail.”
Chiara, a student from Italy, recently came to Australia to study. She and her friend stopped by the practitioners’ event at the square. They learned about the persecution, especially the state-sanctioned killing of practitioners for their organs, and they were appalled. “It’s too cruel, intolerable,” Chiara said. “We have faith, and support human rights. We support your efforts to end the persecution.”
A young student from Scotland and his friend told practitioners that they had little knowledge about Falun Gong, let alone the brutal persecution the practitioners face. After learning the facts, they signed the petition right away and said that they would speak up for justice.
