Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Tang Heping, in his 60s, has been harassed by local police officers for suing Jiang Zemin, the former Chinese dictator. He filed his lawsuit with the Supreme People’s Procuratorate in September 2015.
Mr. Tang is from Shunhe Town, Shunqing District, Nanchong City, Sichuan Province. He was arrested and taken to the Shunhe Town Police Station by three police officers on March 4, 2016.
The police demanded he reveal who helped him write his criminal complaint against Jiang. When Mr. Tang said that he wrote the complaint himself, the police accused him of falsely accusing Jiang and promoting Falun Gong in the criminal complaint. Mr. Tang responded that he sued Jiang based on facts.
The officers asked whether the Supreme People’s Procuratorate acknowledged receipt of the complaint, since they needed to know if the Procuratorate put the complaint on record. Mr. Tang refused to answer, as this was not information that the police were privileged to know.
The police then searched Mr. Tang and found a few thousand yuan, including two pieces of paper currency that had Falun Gong truth-clarifying content printed on them. The police demanded he tell them where he got the paper currency with Falun Gong content. Mr. Tang said that he received it when selling his farm produce. The police video-recorded him and the paper currency before returning it to him.
The police then took Mr. Tang to his home and ransacked it. They could not find anything related to Falun Gong and had to release him. However, they warned that their investigation was not closed.
Mr. Tang then asked for their names and phone numbers. The officers refused to tell him and said, “If we tell you, you will expose us on the Minghui website.”
Background
Before he practiced Falun Gong, Mr. Tang was of poor health and his life was very difficult. After he started practicing Falun Gong and following the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance, he recovered from his illnesses. He has not taken any medication for over 10 years and as a result saved a lot of medical expenses for the village. In addition, he could work on the farm again and no longer needed the village welfare benefit.
The Lawsuits against Jiang
In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.
The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners over the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.
Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang’s directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.
Chinese law now allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
