Falun Gong seek justice to end censorship of appeal in Canberra

The Australian Foreign Minister, Mr Alexander Downer, has used the Vienna Convention in an unprecedented manner regarding the Falun Gong appeals outside the Chinese Embassy in Canberra. Australia is the only democratic country that restricts Falun Gong appeals.

Since 16 March 2002, Mr Downer has interpreted any Falun Gong signage to “impair the dignity” of the Chinese mission according to the Vienna Convention, Diplomatic Privileges and Immunities (DPI) Regulations. Mr Downer has signed DPI certificates every month preventing the display of any Falun Gong banners, including “Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance” and “Stop the Killing”.

Gansu Province Party Secretary Su Rong was served on November 4 while visiting the southern African nation of Zambia, where he was ordered to stay pending a court appearance.

Su Rong is the second high-ranking Chinese official to be sued in Africa and the first official to be forced to remain in a foreign country.

On June 28, 2004, the world was shocked to learn that Falun Gong practitioners were fired upon by hired gunmen in South Africa during Chinese officials’ state visit. In the incident, Australian Falun Gong practitioner Mr. David Liang was shot in both of his feet. The bones of his right foot were smashed and fractured. Now, David has recovered and returned to work three months after the incident. However, previously, many doctors suggested that David have an amputation.

Tang Yiwen is the sister of Australian citizen Lisa Liang. Tang is currently in China and is under severe threat of being illegally imprisoned for the third time in the past four years. Previous detentions have crippled her legs due to the severe torture she endured.

US Circuit Court Affirms Immunity of Former Chinese Leader for Alleged Crimes of Genocide and Torture

The 7th Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the District Court’s immunization of the former leader of China, Jiang Zemin, for alleged genocide, torture and crimes against humanity perpetrated against practitioners of Falun Gong in China.

Dr. Terri Marsh, attorney for the plaintiffs, commented, “[Former leader] Jiang Zemin does not enjoy immunity under US law or under the international standards created in the wake of Nuremberg and affirmed and re-affirmed by domestic and international courts around the globe.”
Plaintiffs will file an appeal to the US Supreme Court, and if necessary to the United Nations Commissions on Genocide and Torture.
