(SFDI) – Due to the joint efforts of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the “Nancy Chen Urgent Rescue Team,” and many other concerned parties, Nancy Chen was finally released at about 10:30 a.m. on January 30, 2003 (Beijing time).
A SYDNEY woman and her daughter will be sent back to Australia after being released by Chinese officials. Australian Falun Gong activists said yesterday.
Ms Chen’s husband, Herbert Lu, says he’s very worried about his wife as he hasn’t been able to make contact with her.
Mr Lu says she hasn’t done anything wrong.
Two Australian diplomats flew from
Beijing to southwest China Wednesday to seek access to one of their
detained nationals, believed to be a member of the banned Falun Gong
spiritual movement, the embassy said.
Thursday, 30 January 2003 (SFDI) – The Australian Embassy was able to confirm details about missing Australian – Ms Nancy Chen only after 72 hours after her disappearance in China. The National Security of the Chinese government claimed that they did not detain Nancy instead used the term “under surveillance” without giving any reasons to Australian officials.
BEIJING.- Australia’s embassy in China is trying to contact one of its
nationals who has apparently been kidnapped by Chinese agents because of
her
membership of the Falun Gong spiritual group.
The Australian embassy has confirmed with Chinese authorities that Ms Chen is being detained but no reason was given.
Two embassy officials from Beijing are attempting to fly to Chengdu today.
Chen’s parents have been contacted by officials from the National Security Bureau who threatened them if the husband made the incident public in Australia or on the internet, it said.
The Chinese have a saying, “When you have principles on your side, you’re not afraid of anyone, anywhere.”
