Many Australians think of China in two ways. The first image is that of an emerging global economic powerhouse, rapidly rising on the back of a colossal working population. The other is of a people increasingly demanding greater political freedom after half a century under a stifling authoritarian regime.

On March 28, 2007, Falun Gong practitioner Ma Hui and her 8-year-old daughter Ma Jingjing, who had earlier been granted UN Refugee Status in St. Petersburg, Russia, were taken away from their home by six officers from the Deportation Department of the Immigration Bureau in St. Petersburg, Russia. On the night of March 28, one Russian policewoman and several Chinese government officers forced Ma Hui and Ma Jingjing to board Flight FV-215 from St. Petersburg to Beijing, and deported them to China. The plane took off at 19:50 from St. Petersburg.

On March 24, 2007, people from all walks of life held grand activities on Union Square downtown and on Garden Corner square in Chinatown to support twenty million people quitting the CCP and its affiliated organizations. The participants said, “The evil Chinese Communist Party has been uprooted. Heaven will destroy the CCP.” They called on Chinese people to quit the CCP for a safe future.

The Spectacular was supported by many Parliament Members, businesses, and the media. More than 10 media outlets reported about the Spectacular.
