China’s state-run terrorism is different from other forms of terrorism, in that the totalitarian government controlling the propaganda machinery can instill and plant hatred into the minds of more than one billion Chinese people by constant bombardment of negative and false information and blockade of positive and truthful information.
In May 1992, Mr. Li Hongzhi held the first Falun Gong class in China. In September 1992, Falun Gong was officially accepted as a direct branch of the China Qigong Research Association and received a nationwide permit to teach Falun Dafa in China. Later, the China TV Broadcasting Agency Publishing Company and some other official publishing companies published Mr. Li’s works, Falun Gong and Zhuan Falun.
Because of its tremendous power to improve health, Falun Gong stood out from the thousands of other qigongs of that time and spread quickly.
During this trip to four Latin America countries by Hu Jintao, even though he only stayed in Argentina for two days, incidents of peacefully appealing Falun Gong practitioners being assaulted right in front of him have happened repeatedly. As China’s paramount leader, his silence towards the Chinese diplomatic mission and their cohorts’ vicious acts constitutes acknowledgement and encouragement.
Recently the Chinese State Administration of Radio, Film and Television, the Central Commission for Comprehensive Control of Law and Order and some other departments jointly issued a policy document that stipulates the strict investigation of the installation of satellite dishes.
The suppression of Falun Gong that began in China in July 1999 may well be the darkest and the largest scale persecution in human history. Facing this persecution, a group of volunteers in North America concerned about human rights formed an organization called the “World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong” (WOIPFG) in 2003.
One day a friend asked me, “Why do you hate Falun Gong?” I said, “Nonsense! I don’t have any enmity towards Falun Gong, why should I hate Falun Gong?” However, I felt something strike at my heart. Do I hate Falun Gong? Nobody practices Falun Gong in public at my workplace, so Falun Gong is seldom mentioned. I haven’t criticized Falun Gong in public, either. Yet my friend pointed to me and said, “Judging from your behavior, your words and even your expression, one can tell that you hate Falun Gong.”
I wondered, how could an embassy official do such a low-level thing like this. What if they hit the cars driving past? I felt very ashamed as a Chinese that the staff of a government agency would behave like this.
Through a series of on-line news, people may have recently become clearer about the disaster that Jiang Zemin’s faction has brought to the nation-wide educational system during the persecution of Falun Gong. It may not be excessive to say that China’s educational institutions are marching toward complete deterioration.
How can we, as a civilised and democratic society, find our conscience to oppose acts of terrorism and help bring those responsible to justice when we are not informed of such matters?
In this incident, however, the gunman shot from the passenger side while his car was behind Mr. Liang’s car. He kept shooting until both cars were moving side-by-side, or parallel with each other. The gunshots lasted about ten seconds. Therefore, the shooting was obviously premeditated, and this is not an ordinary case of random crime.
