Friday, 21 April, 2006: a hearing will be held in the Supreme Court of NSW in relation to the lawsuit filed by Sydney resident and Falun Gong practitioner, Ms Zhang Cuiying, against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin and the 610 Office for torture she suffered in China because of her belief.

Plaintiff Zhang Cuiying will be appealing to the Court to extend the time available for service of legal documents on the Defendants in China. The hearing will be in front of a Judge whom will review the Registrar’s decision on the motion for extension of time and decide on the issue of immunity of the Defendants. The case was first filed in September 2004 under Common Law and is one of dozens of cases against the Chinese former dictator who has also been sued for genocide and crimes against humanity in relation to his role in instigating the persecution of Falun Gong.

Hundreds of local Falun Gong practitioners will have a large scale meditation at Hyde Park. The gathering is to commemorate the peaceful appeal where over 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners gathered in the Beijing Government compound at Zhongnanhai seven years ago on 25 April 1999 to protest the unlawful arrest of practitioners in Tianjin.

“The often-asked question, ‘What is Falun Gong?’ can be easily answered by witnessing the peaceful exercises and meditation movements. Our freedom to do these exercises and believe in ‘Truth, Compassion and Tolerance’ in China has not only been taken away, but practitioners have become the victims of a brutal genocide and are now even killed for organ harvesting.” Kay Rubacek, Falun Gong spokesperson.
