(Minghui.org) The documentary State Organs was screened in the Philadelphia City Institute Library on the afternoon of March 29, 2025. The documentary follows the journey of two Chinese families in their 20-year search for their loved ones who disappeared while in police custody. Along the way, they uncovered a harrowing Chinese government-run forced organ harvesting operation that destroyed thousands of lives. Viewers were appalled by the brutality and called for an end to the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution.

At the discussion after the screening, Alex Luchansky, a member of the Greater Philadelphia Falun Dafa Association, Huang Kui, a former doctoral student at Tsinghua University who was imprisoned for five years by the CCP for practicing Falun Gong, Dr. Jessica Russo, a mental health counselor for Doctors Against Forced Organ Harvesting (DAFOH), and Dr. Alex Chen, international liaison officer for the Taiwan Association for International Care of Organ Transplants (TAICOT), answered questions from the audience for nearly an hour.

Many audience members signed a petition to support the Falun Gong Protection Act and request the House of Representatives and Senate to pass the bill to help stop the CCP’s forced organ harvesting.

The Falun Gong Protection Act was passed in the House of Representative last year, but was put on hold in the Senate. Congressman Scott Perry reintroduced the bill on February 24, 2025. Senator Ted Cruz introduced the Falun Gong Protection Act in the Senate on March 3.

Learning About the CCP’s Persecution

Coco is studying for a master’s degree at the University of Pennsylvania. Her mother is Chinese, her father is German and she speaks fluent Mandarin. She and her parents went to China when she was three years old, and she attended elementary and middle school in Beijing. After graduating from high school, her family returned to the U.S. After watching State Organs, she said that she was shocked and felt that she had been brainwashed by the CCP. She was moved by the amazing courage shown by Falun Gong (Falun Dafa) practitioners in the face of the CCP’s brutal persecution.

“I’ve learned a lot of things that I didn’t know before,” she said. “Although I heard about [the CCP’s persecution of Falun Gong] before, it’s still very uncomfortable to see the [persecution] scenes shown in the movie. Those scenes are very sad.”

Coco said she also heard the CCP’s slanderous propaganda against Falun Gong in school since she was a child: “I first heard about Falun Gong in elementary school. I clearly remember that the ideological and moral education textbook contained content about the [CCP-staged] Tiananmen self-immolation incident to demonise Falun Gong.” She was also surprised when she realized she had been severely brainwashed by the CCP, and that an entire generation had been brainwashed by it.

“Because I grew up in China, I didn’t realise that I was brainwashed before,” she said. Coco said that after coming to the U.S., she realised she couldn’t see the truth in China, because in China, the media and public opinion are all controlled by the Party. Now she tries to learn more.

She gave an example: when she was in high school and visited another country, she did not dare to talk with the Falun Gong practitioners who clarified the truth at tourist attractions. She said, “I was scared when I saw informational materials about Falun Gong, and I avoided practitioners. Now I know I was severely brainwashed. I don’t think I’m the only one brainwashed, as our generation is mostly like that.”

Coco was touched that despite the brutality, Falun Gong practitioners persevere in their belief and continue exposing the persecution. She said, “I think this is incredible, because practitioners can avoid the persecution if they give up practicing. But they don’t do that. It is really touching.”

Coco said her parents knew the nature of the CCP, but like many Chinese people who recently moved to the U.S., they didn’t want to hear anything bad about China. Coco said, “My father said that the biggest problem in China is that the CCP already tied China and the Party together. He knows the CCP very well and studies it every day and is very concerned about it.” “My mother loves China and Chinese culture, which has nothing to do with the Party. She hates the CCP very much now.” Coco said that she would tell her parents about the documentary.

Even though she lives in the U.S., Coco realised that the CCP’s control over Chinese students made it difficult for them to have freedom of speech and speak their minds. She praised the courage of Falun Gong practitioners, who she feels bring people hope and strength.

A question and answer session was held after the screening the documentary State Organs in Philadelphia City Institute Library on March 29, 2025

Forced Organ Harvesting Is an Atrocity

Marcia Kung said that she was shocked after watching the film with her friend, “This experience is so disturbing that I’m deeply appalled.” She said she would do as much as she could to help stop the persecution.

Marcia said her husband was Chinese and immigrated in 1949. His family was persecuted by the CCP. She said, “I am overwhelmed that this organ harvesting takes place on living people. This is an atrocity that I thought we would never do again after the Holocaust.”

She said she heard about the CCP’s atrocities before, but she learned more by watching the documentary. She said she will help more people learn about the CCP’s forced organ harvesting. She said she would ask her daughter, who is a marketing director at a public library, to screen the film. She said, “I can’t wait to call her and give her contact information, because I just think this is something that needs to be shown across the country.”

Marcia said despite her age, she’s politically active, “I feel I have to do something, and I will certainly be calling both Senators Fetterman and McCormick [to support Falun Gong Protection Act]. I will do my best to talk to everybody I know.” She said she would tell more people about the website of the documentary film StateOrgans.com and ask them to watch the film.
