(Minghui.org) Yue’e states the best period of her life started when she was 55. After practicing Falun Dafa, she freed herself from the shackles of illness, overcame the devastation of losing her husband, and gained a new sense of purpose. She is 80 years old this year, and she credits her peaceful and happy life to Master Li Hongzhi.
Yue’e was born into a poor family. Her parents farmed the land for a living, working hard to raise eight children. After graduating from elementary school, Yue’e started learning from a tailor so she could contribute to her family’s income. The tailor had an honest and responsible classmate and felt he was a good match for Yue’e. With the tailor acting as a matchmaker, the couple got together.
“We followed tradition and didn’t spend much time dating. We decided to go ahead with the engagement since I thought he was a good person. He was working in Keelung at that time, while I was making clothes in rural Tainan. Two and a half years later, after he had saved enough to buy a small house, we got married.”
After marriage, Yue’e found herself burning the candle at both ends. Her husband was a firefighter and he worked long hours, taking charge when typhoons came in, participating in rescue missions at sea, and tending to frequent emergencies on land. In her husband’s constant absences, Yue’e raised their two children and took on sewing commissions to supplement their family income.
“At that time, a modern dress cost a mere 25 Taiwan dollars. If I had no sewing commissions, I would visit government offices on weekends to help cook, earning 200 Taiwan dollars each time. Although life was hard and we did not make much money, my husband treated me very well. The only dark spot in my life was my poor health.”
Yue’e got married at the age of 23 and spent her youth taking care of her family. However, as her children grew older, her health began to fail. “I suffered a gastric ulcer at age 36 and underwent four gastroscopy scans. I also suffered from dizziness, sinusitis, and allergic rhinitis. Because of my poor digestive system, I often suffered acid reflux after meals and had difficulty defecating. I had a fungal infection in my foot. No part of my body remained healthy.”
Yue’e was forced to visit the hospital every other day for her ailments. Worse yet, she often fainted in the middle of the night and had to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance. Yue’e endured this torment for nearly 20 years. During that time of her life, she often wondered why she had to endure so much torture and suffering.
New Hope in Life After Practicing Falun Gong
In 2002, after observing her haggard and depressed appearance, Yue’e’s younger sister solemnly told her, “The only thing that can improve your health is Falun Gong!” Yue’e was 55 years old then.
A junior high school teacher, Yue’e’s younger sister started practicing Falun Gong after a colleague introduced the practice to her. Under her sister’s patient guidance, Yue’e started practicing as well. “While practicing the exercises, my palms felt warm, and I felt a strong energy in my hands. My body felt much lighter than before like someone was pushing me whenever I walked or rode a bicycle.”
Her celestial eye opened, allowing Yue’e to experience the purity and sacredness of the heavenly dimensions. “Once, I saw a golden Falun (law wheel) among densely gathered layers of Buddhas, Taos, and gods. The gods and Buddhas were wearing white robes. It was a very spectacular and extraordinary sight. Another time while meditating, I had the sensation of flying upward and said, ‘Ah, it’s so high and far. Is this the Falun paradise?’ After a voice answered, ‘Not yet,’ I came out of my meditative state.”
Despite her extraordinary experiences, Yue’e still visited the hospital regularly to refill her medications, until one day, when a fellow practitioner told her, “Falun Gong is extraordinary.” After returning home, she carefully examined the phrase and came to a sudden realisation of the meaning behind the word “extraordinary.” Yue’e threw away all her remaining medication and found herself reborn from that day on with a body full of health and vitality. “Afterward, I stopped taking medicine. My whole body felt so relaxed, I could even run up and down the stairs, a miracle I had never believed possible before.”
Overcoming Emotional Devastation to Start a New Chapter in Life
In 2005, Yue’e’s husband passed away from illness. “I used to rely on my husband for many things. His sudden death left me heartbroken. I cried non-stop and even entertained the notion of joining him in the afterlife. Seeing how grief-stricken I was, my younger sister advised me, ‘Sister, you are a Falun Gong practitioner. Study the Fa and you will be able to overcome this adversity.’”
Through studying the Fa, Yue’e realised she had accumulated countless relatives, parents, and children throughout her different lifetimes and had gone through many cycles of reincarnation. However, no matter how deep their karmic relationships, there would come a time to part ways.
As Master said:
“Human beings live in delusion and just cannot give up these things. Some people cannot let go of their sons and daughters and claim how good they are, and then they pass away. One may speak of how good one’s mother is, but then she also dies. This person grieves so much that he almost wants to follow her for the rest of his life. Why don’t you think about it? Aren’t they here to torment you? They use this form to make you unable to lead a good life.” (Lecture Six, Zhuan Falun)
After reading the passage over and over, Yue’e realised, “This is evil interference directly targeting me. I must let this attachment go. I won’t rely on anyone else and will put my full faith in Master and Dafa.” Yue’e bravely moved away from her marital home and started a brand-new life in another county.
Yue’e moved into her son’s home and lived with his family. After her son and daughter-in-law left home for work, Yue’e would ride her bicycle to the nearby practice site to practice the exercises and study the Fa with fellow practitioners. At home, she prepared the family meals, cleaned the house, did various household chores, and helped care for her granddaughter.
However, she encountered some friction with her daughter-in-law. “I have a rather impatient personality. Living with my daughter-in-law, it is natural for conflicts to arise. Sometimes I voiced my complaints. I did nothing wrong, yet why does she treat me this way? The more I thought about it, the angrier I got, until my mind was full of negative emotions.”
Yue’e soon realised anger and resentment belong to the category of human emotion. “No matter who is right or wrong, I reminded myself to follow the requirements of a cultivator. I began silently reciting Master’s Fa and looking inward, determined to eliminate my human emotions and replace them with compassion and appreciation of the other party’s strengths. When I found my shortcomings, I felt ashamed but also experienced a sense of joy.”
Establishing a Connection with Chinese People
After practicing the exercises each morning, Yue’e logs in to the RTC online platform to rescue fellow Chinese she has never met. Despite her occasional inability to distinguish what the other party is saying due to their strong accent or her slower pace of speech, Yue’e has patiently overcome the barriers in her way and has been calling people in mainland China daily for the past 18 years.
“I’ve called government officials in China’s public security and judicial organisations to tell them the truth about Falun Gong. I’ve talked to judges, prosecutors, and police chiefs without fear, driven by a single goal, to convince them to stop persecuting good people and obtain salvation. That’s what truly matters.”
Once, Yue’e called an officer from the National Security Brigade who was persecuting Falun Gong practitioners. At first, the other party treated her rudely and hurled insults. Yue’e patiently clarified the misunderstandings he had about Falun Gong and persuaded him to stop his persecution of practitioners. After listening to her for a long time, the other party was finally convinced and renounced his CCP membership.
Yue’e has also called Chinese lawyers and asked them to help defend Falun Gong practitioners in court cases. “Once, the other party straightforwardly told me, ‘Okay, I am willing to take Falun Gong cases to help uphold justice.’ When I praised his kindness and good heart, he happily laughed. Another lawyer told me, ‘I really admire practitioners’ unity and perseverance. I have received dozens of calls from Dafa practitioners all over the world.’”
These phone calls have brought Yue’e in contact with many Chinese people. Yue’e hopes more people will choose to walk the path of justice and kindness to gain a peaceful and blessed future.
Thirteen Family Members Now Cultivate Falun Dafa
The positive changes in Yue’e inspired 13 of her relatives, including her son, daughter-in-law, daughter, son-in-law, grandson, and granddaughter to start practicing Falun Dafa.
During family gatherings, they sometimes bring up the miraculous events they have encountered. “My daughter was driving when she suddenly realised she was about to hit the car in front. Yet she somehow avoided colliding with the other car. My daughter said Master had protected her. My son-in-law had such a severe cold he was barely able to leave his bed. Yet he insisted on practicing the five sets of exercises and he recovered enough to go to work the next day. My son-in-law praised the amazing powers of Dafa. My family has encountered many miracles. Master’s care and protection is something we cannot repay, even if we conveyed our endless gratitude and thanks!”
Having turned 80, Yue’e cherishes every single day. “Master found me and cleansed my body. From an ordinary person full of karma, I became a healthy, happy Dafa disciple. I will practice well and let more people know the goodness of Falun Dafa!”
