(Minghui.org) Falun Dafa practitioners were invited to participate in the annual Global Language and Cultures Awareness Week at La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on April 15, 2024. The practitioners introduced Falun Dafa and taught the exercises
La Salle University first hosted this event in 2017, and it has become an annual tradition since then. The event is held in conjunction with the National Foreign Language Awareness Week, usually held in early March each year. Many high schools also host at least one cultural and language event during the week to raise students’ and teachers’ awareness of foreign languages, culture, traditions, cuisine and politics.
Practitioners introduced the practice of Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong), including the special features and worldwide spread of the practice. They also talked about the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) persecution of practitioners in China and the CCP-sanctioned forced organ harvesting.
Practitioners also taught students the exercises. Several students said they felt refreshed after doing them.
The introduction benefited both teachers and students at La Salle University. Dr. Mark Thomas, Assistant Professor of Political Science at La Salle University, said that it was very beneficial for his students. He was happy to see practitioners introducing the practice, and commented, “The students have learned a lot.”
He said, “The introduction of Falun Gong was warmly welcomed by the students of La Salle. They have a clear understanding of the values [Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance] advocated by Falun Gong, as well as the continued persecution by the Chinese communist regime. This lecture has greatly eliminated the Chinese communist government’s lies that slander Falun Gong.”
Dr. Thomas said that the main purpose of this event was to encourage students to learn languages other than English. Another purpose was to raise people’s awareness of cultural differences, religious beliefs and racial persecution. He said, “The Falun Dafa lecture is fully consistent with the aims of Global Language and Cultural Awareness Week.”
