Liaoning Woman Sentenced to 6 Years in Prison for Her Faith

A Chaoyang City resident was sentenced to six years in prison and fined 10,000 yuan for distributing information exposing the Chinese communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong.

Ms. Jiang Weizhen credits Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, for returning her to health. Her family and friends were all amazed that her arthritis, scarlet fever, neurasthenia, and other ailments disappeared after she took up the practice of Falun Gong.

Having had firsthand experience with Falun Gong, Ms. Jiang never wavered in her faith after the persecution began in July 1999. She was arrested on June 27, 2017, while she was handing out Falun Gong informational materials.

Officer Zhang Jianli revealed that many people called the local police station to seek Ms. Jiang’s release.

Ms. Jiang appeared in court on November 30, 2017, and again on January 25, 2018. Her defense lawyer was threatened by presiding judge Ao Ruixue before both appearances.

Ao warned the lawyer to not argue that Ms. Jiang was innocent. He produced a written order from his superiors before the second hearing, saying that he was allowed to toss the lawyer out if the latter dared to enter a “not guilty” plea on Ms. Jiang’s behalf.

The lawyer ignored the threat and entered a “not guilty” plea for Ms. Jiang, since no law in China says that practicing Falun Gong is a crime. Ao sentenced Ms. Jiang to prison several months after the second hearing.

While Ms. Jiang remains detained, her mother-in-law, for whom Ms. Jiang had been the caregiver, died, distressed beyond measure that her daughter-in-law had been arrested.
