Falun Gong practitioner, Mr. Xu Xijun, passed away in May 2002 at the age of 32 when he was forced onto the streets to avoid further persecution.
He was first arrested in October 2000 when he went to Beijing to appeal to the government. He was later given three years of forced labor and suffered brutal torture there, which made him unable to eat. He also had problems with his lungs.
Mr. Xu was released on medical parole one year later in October 2001, and died seven months later.
Mr. Xu is not the only one in his family that suffered from the Chinese communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong. His parents, sister, two brothers and their wives have also been repeatedly arrested for practicing Falun Gong.
Mr. Xu’s mother and one of his sisters-in-law were each given one year of forced labor. Another sister-in-law was sent to labor camp twice for a total of 2 years and 3 months. His father and one of his brothers were each detained for two weeks, while another brother was given 1.5 years of forced labor.
The surviving members of the Xu family filed a criminal complaint against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin in June 2015, holding him responsible for Mr. Xu’s death and their family’s ordeals.
Below are some additional details revealed in the complaint letter:
Mr. Xu, the youngest son in the family, started practicing Falun Gong first and introduced it to the rest of his family.
The family only got to know of Mr. Xu’s arrest and detention after losing contact with him in 2000. However, the family was not allowed to visit him. Mr. Xu was only released in October 2001 when he was on the brink of death.
He recovered slightly after returning home but, his parents, sister, brothers, and sisters-in-law were arrested one after another soon after. With no one to take care of him and repeated harassment from the police, Mr. Xu left home and died in the hospital in May 2002 as he could not recover fully.
The seven surviving members of Mr. Xu’s family were arrested again 7 months after his death. The father was stripped naked, beaten and shocked with electric batons. His wife dared not watch, but the police pried open her eyes, puffed smoke rings into her eyes and beat her for many hours.
The police placed many layers of plastic bags on Mr. Xu’s second elder brother’s head, force-fed him, shocked him with electric batons and made him sit on the tiger bench.
One of Mr. Xu’s sisters-in-law also suffered from electric shocks and other forms of torture.
Mr. Xu’s sister had hot candle wax dripped onto her body. Iron nails were inserted into her nostrils and she was also beaten.
Background
In 1999, Jiang Zemin, as head of the Chinese Communist Party, overrode other Politburo standing committee members and launched the violent suppression of Falun Gong.
The persecution has led to the deaths of many Falun Gong practitioners in the past 16 years. More have been tortured for their belief and even killed for their organs. Jiang Zemin is directly responsible for the inception and continuation of the brutal persecution.
Under his personal direction, the Chinese Communist Party established an extralegal security organ, the “610 Office,” on June 10, 1999. The organization overrides police forces and the judicial system in carrying out Jiang’s directive regarding Falun Gong: to ruin their reputations, cut off their financial resources, and destroy them physically.
Chinese law allows for citizens to be plaintiffs in criminal cases, and many practitioners are now exercising that right to file criminal complaints against the former dictator.
