THE COALITION TO INVESTIGATE THE PERSECUTION OF FALUN GONG
LAUNCHES THE “ANTI-PERSECUTION MILLIONS OF SIGNATURES GLOBAL CAMPAIGN”
AND PLANS FOR
HUMAN RIGHTS TORCH RELAY TO ENTER CHINA
Jan. 1st, 2008
As part of its ongoing efforts to end the Chinese government’s brutal treatment of Falun Gong practitioners, the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (CIPFG) has begun a campaign to secure millions of signatures on a worldwide anti-persecution petition. The signatures will be gathered ahead of the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and will be presented to the International Olympics Committee, the United Nations Commission on Human Rights, international human rights organizations, and various governments and parliaments around the world.
The global anti-persecution petitions will demand that the Chinese Communist regime immediately stop its persecution of Falun Gong, unconditionally release all Falun Gong practitioners in detention, and end suppression of righteous individuals who support Falun Gong, such as human rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng.
Since CIPFG was established in 2006, it has continuously exposed, on an international level, the Chinese Communist dictatorship’s contravention of various international human rights conventions – such as the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights – and its severe lack of respect for human dignity. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has ruthlessly persecuted and deprived the Chinese people of their fundamental rights, including freedom of speech, freedom of press, and freedom of belief. Despite promises the CCP made when awarded the 2008 Olympics, these violations have not improved in the least, but instead have worsened.
Throughout the last eight years, the CCP has committed chilling crimes against Falun Gong practitioners throughout Mainland China, including unscrupulous arrests; sentencing practitioners to forced labor camps; torture; murder; and organ harvesting from living practitioners. The persecution of Falun Gong is the most severe human rights disaster in China today.
In response to urgent requests from Mainland Chinese, the Human Rights Torch Relay (HRTR) flame will enter China in the spring of 2008. HRTR will then relay throughout China, which means there will be two Human Rights Torches relaying around the world simultaneously. This will allow the Chinese people who participate in this endeavor to voice their heartfelt calls for support to the international community.
The Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong invites people of good will around the world to join us in bringing an end to the ongoing persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. For information about how you can help, please contact us at: http://www.cipfg.org
Statement Supporting CIPFG “Anti-Persecution Millions of Signature Global Campaign”
by Asian President and Vice Presidents of the Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong in China (CIPFG)
Szeto Wah, Vice President of CIPFG Asia in Hong Kong (full text):
When applying for hosting the Olympic Games, the Chinese Communist regime promised to the international community to improve the human rights in China. However, since it won the bid, we haven’t seen any improvement in China’s human rights situation so far. The regime didn’t fulfill its commitment, and furthermore its human rights situation is going from bad to worse. Among the human rights abuses in China, the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is the worst one, which includes the persecution of people who practice Falun Gong or possess Falun Gong documents. As Hong Kong is close to mainland China, we are very clear about the truth of the persecution against Falun Gong practitioners, and we have also received relevant information from time to time. In the meantime, Falun Gong activities held in Hong Kong have proved to Hong Kong residents that Falun Gong practitioners are peaceful, law-abiding, and orderly, and they are steadfast in their belief. Now, it is very meaningful to launch such a signature campaign to demand the ending of persecution of Falun Gong. In addition, this is something that Hong Kong people can do to prompt the Chinese regime to fulfill its commitment in improving human rights before the Beijing Olympic Games. I hereby appeal to all lovers of human rights to join this signature campaign.
Lai Ching-te, President of CIPFG Asia (excerpt):
I’d like to appeal to people of justice from all over the world to fight against the Chinese regime’s horrendous atrocities of harvesting organs from live Falun Gong practitioners. This global power of people with noble aspirations, a powerful force of justice, can help put an end to the Chinese regime’s persecution of human rights. If one million people around the world join this signature campaign and the petition is sent to the International Olympic Committee, I believe this endeavor is of much significance to the Chinese regime’s record of human rights persecution.
Edmund Bon Tai Soon, Vice President of CIPFG Malaysia (excerpt):
Human rights abuses and other human rights issues are absolutely global issues, and no country in the world is immune to the scrutiny of international community. Besides the issue of Falun Gong, there are a range of human rights activities held in Malaysia to raise people’s awareness of human rights. These cannot be regarded as local issues, and instead they must be regarded as global issues. Therefore, it is very important that all Malaysian citizens as well as people from each class of the society who support human rights and justice should sign to support this campaign and also relay it to other people. I hope that the goal of collecting one million signatures can be achieved.
Chiu Huang-chuan, Vice President of CIPFG Taiwan (excerpt):
Since July 1999, the Chinese regime has never stopped its persecution of Falun Gong, and the situation is going from bad to worse. It is by all means against the spirit of human rights, the spirit of the Olympic Games, and the commitment that the Chinese Communist regime made when bidding for hosting the Olympic Games. I believe that this situation is unacceptable and intolerable to everyone, as it is so abominable. We also believe that we are very concerned about the persecution of Falun Gong and want to do something about it. What we have to do is very simple: we just sign the petition to call on the Chinese regime to cease its persecution of Falun Gong immediately and unconditionally. This action is very simple but very powerful. When noticing this action, the regime may pay serious attention to it, fear for it, and then change the situation. In fact, many human rights were earned through very simple actions of numerous people. Such a simple signature campaign will never be a waste, but will be a powerful force. We definitely can soon stop the persecution of Falun Gong particularly before 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Ando Kan, Vice President of CIPFG Japan (excerpt):
As we all know, the Chinese Communist regime has launched an unprecedented repression on Falun Gong. In particular, the atrocity of harvesting organs from live Falun Gong practitioners has been verified recently, which is not supposed to happen. The CIPFG has launched the Global Human Rights Torch Relay activities throughout the world to condemn the Chinese regime’s human rights abuse against Falun Gong. Now the voices of protests from all over the world will converge on the One Million Signature Global Campaign. This campaign commenced to spread worldwide in the beginning of the New Year and we will strive for more signatures in Japan.
Zheng Qiuchen, Vice President of CIPFG South Korea (excerpt):
China is not only our nearest neighboring country, but also the most influential country to our adversary country, North Korea. Furthermore North Korea and China are implementing unprecedented live organ harvesting and human rights violating policies. As a neighboring country to China, we cannot turn a blind eye to this situation, as it is against the trend in the times of globalization. What is happening in neighboring China will also have significant influence on the human rights of our country as well as North Korea people. For that reason, South Korea should be more attentive to China’s human right situation. China and South Korea are supposed to be harmonious neighboring countries. Hence, this signature campaign is very essential. Hopefully through this campaign, China can coexist in harmony with other democratic countries like us.
Objectives
To transform the worldwide public opinion into a powerful righteous awareness that the Chinese Communist regime’s persecution of Falun Dafa(known as Falun Gong) must be ended immediately;
Explanation
Falun Gong has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist regime for over eight years now; however, many mainstream democratic governments, media and social elites still keep silence in this heinous persecution.
Many governments, social elites and organizations are well aware of this cruel persecution, but they simply wait and see if other countries would take the lead to step forward and take action.
Many individuals and organizations have long supported Falun Dafa and Falun Dafa Dafa practitioners, but they may still wonder altogether how many people worldwide are supporting Falun Gong and having the belief that this persecution must be ended.
As the foundation of a democratic mechanism lines in public opinion, we want more governments, parliaments, media and international organizations know that opposing the persecution is a worldwide public opinion, and that they should no longer ignore this public opinion. Therefore, we are collecting righteous support from you should demonstrate to various governments, parliaments and international organizations, including the U.N., before the 2008 Olympic Games, the momentum and strength of this public opinion that people worldwide are against the Chinese regime’s persecution of Falun Gong.
At this historical juncture, we are determined to make good use of the opportunity of clarifying the truth in the run-up to the upcoming Olympic Games, and integrate the momentum of the public opinion of the people in various countries that they are supporting Falun Dafa and against the Chinese regime’s persecution of Falun Gong. We want to transform this public opinion into a single and brief voice, that is, the persecution of Falun Gong must be stopped immediately.
We are planning to submit the signatures collected worldwide with various governments, parliaments, national Olympic Committees, and international organizations such as the U.N. and the International Olympic Committee, etc. before the opening of the Olympic Games, so that they can be fully aware that the public opinion is irreversible. We believe they, based on this overwhelming public opinion, may utilize the existing democratic and human rights mechanisms to do what they are supposed to do–call on the Chinese communist regime to put an end to the persecution of Falun Gong and its practitioners immediately.
