THE family of Chinese rights lawyer Gao Zhisheng, who has been tipped for a Nobel Peace Prize and disappeared weeks ago, has defected to the US.
Gao Zhisheng, one of China’s most prominent human rights lawyers, was seen being taken away by secret police from his Beijing home on Sunday according to eye-witnesses. Gao had broken China’s biggest taboo by publicly calling for an end to the persecution of Falun Gong.
Mr. Edward McMillan-Scott, European Parliament Vice President, wrote a letter to the Chinese Ambassador in Belgium, strongly urging the immediate release of Cao Dong and Gao Zhisheng. Vice President McMillan-Scott firmly states that he will refer this matter to the United Nations in person when he visits the United Nations on November 8-9, 2006.
