Paintings by traditional Chinese artist Zhang Cuiying aim to give viewers a sense of peace.A selection of paintings from work she has produced during the last 30 years will be on show from Monday, February 14 at the Momoya Restaurant in Chatswood as part of Chinese New Year celebrations and she has a very personal reason for promoting peace.

Despite a life-threatening illness, Jennifer Zeng was given fresh hope through practising Falun Gong. Soon after she discovered it, however, Falun Gong was banned in the most far-reaching suppression and persecution experienced in China since The Cultural Revolution.

Zeng’s account of her ordeal, Witnessing History: One Woman’s Fight for Freedom and Falun Gong (Allen & Unwin, $29.95), will be released in Australia. It is the first book by a Falun Gong follower who has suffered imprisonment and torture — and it has been black-listed in China.
