The Sunshine Plaza came alive with song and dance, as the ‘Petals of Peace’ Cultural Event. This event allowed hundreds of people to witness the beauty of Falun Dafa through our presentation and heartfelt message.
On Friday evening, at King George Square in Brisbane, practitioners from southeast Queensland held a candlelight vigil in remembrance of Liu Chengjun, who died from torture on 26th December 2003.
On the second day in the new year of 2004, more than 50 Falun Dafa practitioners from around Australia gathered in front of the Chinese Embassy in Canberra and held a press conference and a memorial to raise awareness of the brutal torture and subsequent death of Liu Chengjun.
On the morning of December 30, Melbourne Falun Gong practitioners held a press conference in front of the Chinese Consulate at Melbourne to protest the death of Mr. Liu Chengjun Liu. They also called for the punishment of those responsible, to bring Dictator Jiang to justice, and to end the persecution of Falun Gong.
At 11:30am, December 31, 2003, more than a hundred people joined a press conference in front of the Sydney Chinese Consulate to listen to the tragic incident of Liu Chengjun, a Falun Gong practitioner, who was tortured to death on 26 December 2003 in prison in Jilin province.
On December 21, 2003, Falun Dafa practitioners from Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast and other areas in Brisbane went to a nursing home in the suburbs to have a party with the elderly people who live there. Practitioners performed songs and dances, and demonstrated the Falun Dafa exercises.
In fact, the reason why the Melbourne City Council gave a green light to Falun Gong’s request to join the parade all the way until making a 180-degree change by shutting out the group is obvious. Jiang’s group is villainous in its persecution against Falun Gong and has extended its claws abroad.
Attending government officials and human rights activists had conversations with practitioners to learn more about the persecution of Falun Gong in China. After learning about their evening performance, and said that inviting Falun Gong practitioners to participate this year fit the theme of Human Rights Day perfectly.
During the opening of a new Library Building, street development and centenary celebration in Nerang, Petals of Peace was shared with many in the community through making lotus flowers for awareness and peace.
On the afternoon of December 1, motion no. 704 initiated by Senator Stott Despoja, Australian Democrats’ Foreign Affairs spokesperson, at the Australian Senate about the relatives of Australian citizens who are being persecuted for practicing Falun Gong, was passed at Senate in the Parliament House in Canberra.
Despoja further indicated, “The stories of murder, torture and imprisonment of Falun Gong practitioners are truly horrifying. Many Australian citizens have relatives in China who are being subjected to such persecution and it would be wrong not to use the Parliament to speak out on their behalf and highlight their situation.”
