Czech Republic: Mayor of Brno Condemns Persecution of Falun Gong

Mr. Petr Vokřál, Mayor of Brno, the second largest city in the Czech Republic, has expressed great concern over the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of Falun Gong.

In an e-mail reply to Falun Gong practitioner Veronika Sunová, Mr. Vokřál wrote,

“I have studied the materials you sent me, as well as a variety of other information from different sources, with great interest.

“Although I had heard about the existence of the Falun Gong movement several times, I had never looked into the issue in more detail until recently, at your suggestion. I must say that I was devastated by the information that I discovered.

“Totalitarian regimes have always done anything they can to stay in power and even practices as gruesome as selling organs are not alien to them. After all, this is not the first time that a dictatorship has supported and covered up humanly unacceptable and morally intolerable crimes in its struggle for power.  However, the degree of organisation and the bestiality of this behavior truly horrifies me. I had hoped that in the 21st century we would only know these practices from history books, but unfortunately I was wrong.

“I would like to express my solidarity with the Falun Gong movement, which I consider to be tolerant and peaceful. I believe the fight against it is a purely political struggle, and it is further proof that Chinese Communism has not abandoned the bloody practices, which its entire history is lined with. Therefore, we, who have extensive experience with this ideology must not remain silent, for our silence would be a granting of absolution to all those involved in the crimes of Communism.”

Mr. Petr Vokřál, Mayor of the City of Brno, Czech Republic.
