Two accomplished Chinese scientists – a production safety expert and an inventor – credit their professional success to the practice of Falun Gong, a traditional mind-body cultivation practice.
Both men were drawn to the practice due to chronic health problems, but each gained so much more than renewed physical health.
These are their stories.
Production Safety Expert and His Wife Practice Falun Gong
Zhang Zimin is a former professor at Henan Polytechnic University where he was a production safety expert. Among his achievements, Zhang was standing Deputy Director of the Gas Geological Special Committee of the China Coal Society and a team leader of the National Coal Mine Gas Geological Map Preparation Technology.
Professor Zhang oversaw the completion of no less than 14 national level projects. He won numerous awards at the national and provincial levels, published 95 papers and held a patent. And yet, before these accomplishments, Zhang was in such poor health that he was considering early retirement.
He decided to take up Falun Gong after he witnessed how much the practice had benefited his wife.
Professor Zhang’s wife, Ms. Ding Xiangying, had been plagued by a number of physical ailments including tachycardia, arthritis, a chronic low fever, tonsillitis, menopausal syndrome, chronic gastric problems, severe insomnia, and constipation.
On top of these problems, she often caught colds. Ms. Ding took many medications and had tried various forms of physical exercise including dancing, running, Taichi and qigong. But none turned her health around like she had hoped.
A friend introduced her to Falun Gong and told her about the practice’s marvelous effects on health. Ms. Ding Xiangying started practicing Falun Gong in May 1996.
Her insomnia was gone just four days after she began doing the exercises. Before, she slept only two or three hours a night and had to use a sleeping aid to get even that much sleep. This miracle enhanced her confidence in Falun Gong.
Four months into the practice, all of Ms. Ding’s ailments had disappeared and she has not taken any medication since then. She became so healthy that she could carry a 50-lb. bag of rice up five flights of stairs. Her family and friends said that she had changed completely.
Ms. Ding abides by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in her daily life. When facing conflicts, she followed Falun Gong’s teachings and would look within first. As a Falun Gong cultivator, she became kinder and more sincere.
Ms. Ding rode her bike to work every day, to a factory located over four miles from her home. The road was steep and rocky and was poorly lit at night. Many of her colleagues had gotten injured from hitting rocks and other debris on this road.
After she began practicing Falun Gong Ms. Ding took it upon herself to clear the road of stones, bricks, and broken glass each morning. She kept this up until she retired.
Professor Zhang started practicing Falun Gong in 1998 after observing all the positive changes in his wife.
Before he took up Falun Gong, Prof. Zhang had heart disease, high blood pressure, chronic stomach problems, hydrocephalus, and frequent headaches.
He was so weak that he had to stop to catch his breath midway up the stairs to his third-floor office. He took various medications and at one point was so ill that he wrote to his school supervisor asking for early retirement or a long sick leave.
During the first two days that Zhang watched the videos of Falun Gong’s founder, Master Li Hongzhi teaching the practice, his mind was cloudy and his thinking was slow. On the third day of the nine-day lecture series, he became clear-minded and sharp. Soon, his illnesses were gone and he stopped taking medicines. He could work long hours every day.
After this breakthrough Professor Zhang had numerous accomplishments in his research. He was recognized as a national production safety expert in February 2007, published over 90 papers and finished dozens of research projects.
Professor Zhang always acknowledged that his accomplishments were due to his practicing Falun Gong.
An Inventor Practices Falun Gong
Kao Fuquan is the former director of the Zhaoyuan Gold Mine Electric Appliance Plant. He was an engineer and a well-known inventor, holding a number of patents and national awards for his inventions.
His inventions included an electric bed, an electric hypnosis bed, a massage bed, an energy-saving AC-DC welder, an energy-saving transformer, metal and glass products, multi-element benefication equipment and separation technology, as well as a large-capacity quick charge battery.
As a young person, Mr. Kao admired inventors and entrepreneurs and he was determined to make his own contribution to humanity.
Unfortunately, he had so many illnesses that he had little to show for his career. He battled stomach problems, neurasthenia, dizziness, and strain, and was susceptible to colds. Life was very difficult for Mr. Kao.
A friend recommended Falun Gong to him in July 1994. He read the introductory book Falun Gong and was drawn to the profound principles set forth in those pages. He learned the Falun Gong exercises and followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance in his daily life.
Soon, all of Mr. Kao’s illnesses were gone. He became healthy and high spirited. Seeing her husband’s amazing changes, his wife also started practicing Falun Gong.
Mr. Kao set strict requirements for himself by following Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.
When he was the director of the Zhaoyuan Gold Mine Electric Appliance Plant, he followed the rules and took personal interest lightly. He took care of each employee and made sure that payments of wages, bonuses and various benefits were always paid on time.
His high moral character motivated the employees to work hard and carefully. As a result, the plant’s output was of high quality and quantity. Customers were happy, and the plant made a good profit.
Mr. Kao was sincere and kind, always ready to help others. His supervisor and customers spoke highly of him.
Mr. Kao remarked, “After practicing Falun Gong, my world view changed completely. I take fame and interest lightly and always try to think of others first. My starting point in doing research and business is to contribute to society and the people.
“I know well that my honors and accomplishments are the result of my practicing Falun Gong. Before that, I was so weak, with so many illnesses, that I could barely take care of myself – not to mention invent anything!”
Falun Gong was first taught to the public in 1992. Nearly 100 million people across China were soon practicing Falun Gong after experiencing improvements in their health and character.
Jiang Zemin, former head of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), perceived the spiritual discipline’s growing popularity as a threat to the CCP’s atheistic ideology and issued an order to ban Falun Gong on July 20, 1999.
Minghui.org has confirmed the deaths of thousands of Falun Gong practitioners in the persecution over the past 18 years; the actual number is suspected to be much higher.
More have been imprisoned and tortured for their faith. Evidence shows that the CCP harvests organs from detained practitioners, who are killed in the process, to supply the organ transplantation industry.
Under Jiang’s personal direction, the CCP established the 610 Office, an extralegal security organisation with the power to override the police and judicial systems and whose sole function is to carry out the persecution of Falun Gong.
