12 Arrested in One Day for Their Faith

May 21, 2016 | Twelve locals from Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province were arrested on May 8, 2016 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Around 6 a.m., Ms. Tan Fengyun was arrested, and her computer, printer and Falun Gong books were taken away.

Three hours later, Mr. Wang Xinrong and his wife Ms. Zhang Zhicai were arrested and the police confiscated the following items from their home: one computer, three printers, one CD/DVD burner, 30,000 yuan in cash and many Dafa books. Mr. Wang was rejected by the detention center due to hyper-tension, and he was released the next day around noon. Ms. Zhang Zhicai was given ten days of detention.

Around 11a.m., teacher Yan from the Forestry Administration was also arrested. The perpetrators told him that it was a concerted effort to target local Falun Gong practitioners.

Also arrested that morning were Wang Pingzhong, Yu You, Li Baohua, Wu Xushu, Zhang Guirong, Zhang Shuli, Wang Yanju, and Li Shengchun.

Mr. Li was the second person known to have been released. The whereabouts of other practitioners, except for Ms. Zhang Zhicai, remain unknown.
