Chinese official sued for torture to face court

Mr CHEN Shaoji, the former Party Secretary of the CCP Guangdong Political and
Judicial Committee, in charge of directing the Guangdong 6-10 Office , is due
to appear in court today at a status conference, after being served legal documents
on the 07/12/06 for his involvement in the torture of Falun Gong practitioners
in Guangdong.

The two plaintiffs, Sydney residents Ms XIE Yan and Mrs. LI Fuying are seeking
damages and costs for wrongful imprisonment, assault and battery for the torture
and detention that experienced in Guangdong.

"Like the many Chinese officials who have been sued for their involvement
in torture of Falun Gong practitioners, the defendant has not yet filed a notice
of appearance and is too cowardly to face a court of justice", said John
Deller, President of the NSW Falun Dafa Association.

CHEN Shaoji has been responsible for the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners
in Guangdong with at least 64 documented cases of death following torture in
labour camps and prisons up to October 2005.
